Fantastic place. Historic building very well maintained with lots of pride of ownership and attention to detail. Didn’t expect to use a fireplace in Hawaii but it was very nice on the cooler rainy mornings and evenings. Very private and tastefully decorated. Nice base for our activities around Volcano and also a very easy drive into Hilo for the day or half day. Highly recommended. –Tutu’s Guest
This was an amazingly great 3 week stay. The team were just perfect on every occasion. The home is a brilliant example of when an interesting and worthwhile historical property is lovingly managed in the caring hands. The location is awesome to explore the volcanoes of Hawaii with Volcanoes National Park just two miles away. The home has every amenity and super clean, well equipped with quality things and homely in a lovely garden and forest setting. The village is quaint and great for jogs along its many country roads. The stores and restaurants are great both for take out and other options. Make sure you have a car though 🙂 —Ola’a Guest
When we arrived we were amazed at how beautifully the cottage was decorated. It was built in 1929 and reflects the architecture of the era. It has a lovely stained glass window with birds in the kitchen as well as a built-in china cabinet full of beautiful china and glasses. The art in the cottage was also gorgeous. Evenings were chilly and we appreciated the heated beds and stove to keep everyone warm. There was a nice assortment of books, DVDs and board games. —Tutu’s Guest
My new favorite place! –Ola’a Guest
Beautiful spot. Beautiful art. Kitchen with all the amenities you could need for a long term stay. Really helpful and responsive hosts. It really felt like a home and the home was unique and historical. –Tutu’s Guest
Ola’a House was a spacious cottage with all the essentials you would expect from a nice hotel including luxurious linens & bedding, coffee/tea/cocoa with cream & sugar, plenty of bottled water, beautifully decorated, gas fireplace and very clean. There are neighbors very close, but the landscaping is so dense and beautiful you don’t even notice. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking full meals. The location couldn’t be better as it is very close to the nearby restaurants and shops in the area, which can easily be walked to. We enjoyed our stay, and would stay again if we ever returned to volcano. –Ola’a Guest
Lovely place with great vibes, very close to the national park! –Tutu’s Guest
The house is very cute and fully consistent with the description. Great location – 7 minutes to the Volcano park. The house is clean, comfortable and quiet, cozy area. If we are once again going to visit this island, then I would no longer think what place to choose, because Ola’a House
is the perfect place for this. We had an amazing time. Thank you. –Ola’a Guest
It is my first time writing a review! Everything was better than we thought and more! It is a wonderful experience 100% and you will not regret it! –Ola’a Guest
This charming house is full of character, local art, and thoughtful touches. Their experience with hosting shows in small ways like towel bars on the back of each bedroom door. (Why don’t all places do that?! Rentals never enough room for everyone’s towels to hang in the bathroom.) There is also a towel heater in the bathroom! Though it was chilly during our stay, we never once turned on the heaters because the beds have heated electric mats under the sheets. It was so nice to crawl into a toasty warm bed! The controls on the king bed are separated so that I could have my side of the bed warm and my husband kept his side cool. The photos do not do justice to the gorgeous backyard. The grounds are full of beautiful flowers and there is a lime tree out back. He house is filled with gorgeous local art. While we were there we got to meet the artist who was finishing up a beautiful mural on the water catchment tank. The fact that they are still investing in the beautification of this already gorgeous place shows the love they have for this building. We loved our stay here and would definitely return. They also had a binder full of local recommendations and information that came in very handy. –Tutu’s Guest
We enjoyed staying in the charming Ola’a House for three nights! It was a perfect place to stay when visiting Volcano. The kitchen is fully stocked and we had fun cooking at home. The living room is beautifully decorated, and we enjoyed playing many board games and relaxing after days hiking around Volcano. Thank you! –Ola’a Guest
What a lovely place! It was a great home base for us for the month as we ventured across the island. –Tutu’s Guest
Tutu’s Place is a magical place to stay in the rainforest on the Big Island. The house has character and style, and we loved the nighttime chorus of birds, insects, and the soft rain. We couldn’t have imagined a more peaceful place to decompress and unwind. This is a great location for visiting the South and East side of the island, especially Volcanoes National Park. The kitchen is well equipped for cooking, and we’d recommend grabbing groceries in Hilo or Kona before your arrival – groceries in the immediate vicinity were sparse, and restaurants were closed/very busy due to covid! Be ready for a few beautiful rainstorms and fog. The house was very comfortable and cozy – we’ll never forget our stay at Tutu’s! Thanks! –Tutu’s Guest
We stayed five nights and were very comfortable end enjoyed every moment of it. The house is clean, charmingly decorated, and well maintained. We appreciated the fireplace and the other heating devices, which helped us stay warm during the chilly evenings. We wish we could have stayed longer. The house is just outside the park with easy access in and out—plenty of hiking around to enjoy. Hilo is not far as well. We.hope to be back sometime soon. –Ola’a Guest
This place was perfect, from check in to check out everything was easy, clean, and ran flawlessly. The home his beautiful with so much incredible art and culture built right into the home. We were so appreciative of the activities book provided and would 100% recommend that all travelers stay here when visiting near Volcano! –Ola’a Guest
If you are lucky enough to find this house available for your trip dates I couldn’t offer a stronger recommendation. This home stands out among other Airbnb as it is a true luxury retreat. It has all the comforts of a luxury hotel and more. In fact, the owners are the previous hoteliers of the most luxurious hotel in the area. The sold the hotel and transitioned to Airbnb hosts! Lucky us. The beds are fitted with luxury white bedding topped with beautiful unique Hawaiian quilts. They are Also equipped with heated bed covers for those chilly nights. There are ample extra pillows and plush blankets, As well as an available futon and crib which were great options for my toddler. The bedframe was made out of beautiful carved solid wood, and all of the furniture was truly solid and expensive looking and feeling. The towels were plentiful, plush and hotel white! There is a gas fireplace in the living room, as well as wall heaters and space heaters in every room, ensuring you will stay warm and comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you would need to cook up a family feast and coffee and tea was provided. There were ample EXTRA touches, such as night lights in every room, a small stool for the potty to help my toddler, tons of fun family games, tons of guide books and fiction books, and heated towel racks! The home is also equipped with stunning original Hawaiian art made for the owners framed in beautiful Koa wood. The self check in was a breeze and the owner stopped by to bring us fresh baked banana bread! There is a covered car port which was ideal for getting in and out of the car when rain was pouring. The internet was high Speed and there is excellent cell service, which was necessary for doing some work during my trip. Sadly, due to COVID-19 and the wet weather, the area was pretty quiet and shut down, but this home couldn’t be any closer to volcano park unless it was inside the actual Park. It was one of the original plantation homes in the area that has been tastefully remodeled to bring it to modern standards but leaving the authentic feel. The surrounding yard is a beautiful green lush rainforest. The rooms are large and the home has high ceilings. Overall, this home is luxurious and wonderful and will Likely exceed all of your expectations. I hope to come back again. –Ola’a Guest
It’s a great home in a great location. Very comfortable and anyone who appreciates old craftsman style homes it’s a real treat! The location is very walkable with a couple of little food cafes and a neat nature walk nearby. It was also very easy going into Volcanoes National Park which is only a few minutes away! Thank you for the wonderful stay! –Ola’a Guest
